Today is the 2 month mark to our wedding and as it gets closer and closer, I get more and more excited!! Not only am I excited about our beautiful wedding but also for our adventurous honeymoon. I am ready for all the planning to be over, all the packing to be done and to be on a flight to a 2 week adventure.
So here are the rough plans of our honeymoon. I know its not like most people's honeymoons but it is so us! We are flying into Seattle, WA on Sunday June 13 and will spend a couple days there (Aaron knows the specifics as he is booking everything :) love him!) then we will start driving down the Pacific coast. When we get to Newport, OR we will stop for another few days and get to spend some time on the beach and watch amazing sunsets (our room has a balcony that overlooks the ocean). There is also an aquarium there that I really want to go to! I would also like to go whale watching but we'll see how much time we have. Then we'll keep driving down the coast to Northern California. We will stay right around Humboldt's State Park area which is where all the ginormous Redwood trees are. It is so beautiful there. We only got to spend a couple hours there last time we went to Cali so this time I think we are taking 2-3 days. Cannot wait!! After that we will drive down to San Francisco so I can see the Golden Gate Bridge and eat some Rice-a-Roni (it is the San Francisco treat ya know). Also, we might see a NASCAR race while we are there... I know, I know... but it is so Aaron :) I think it would make the honeymoon complete for him. It would be in Sonoma, CA at Infineon Raceway which is a road course (I think that's what its called) which basically means its not just one big oval, it turns and winds in different directions which makes it kind of unique. We would stay there for another couple days and then start working our way back up to Seattle. We would spend whatever time we had left in Seattle and then fly home on the 25th. I cannot wait!!!!
We are almost finished working on our invites which are so amazingly cute I cant believe it. They turned out much nicer than I thought they would when we bought the kits from Michael's. We are working on tying all our lose ends up and getting this wedding thing under wraps :) I have my second fitting in my dress on Friday... I can't wait to put it on again!!
Have a blessed week everyone and enjoy the Spring weather!!!

Moving Along
Wedding planning has been going great! Things are really moving along and I am so excited to get to spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams. We have the church, the reception hall, the DJ, the photographer… I know what kind of flowers I want but am researching for a florist in our budget… Everything is great on that end! And I can envision our wedding already and it is going to be beautiful!
We do need prayers however. As some people may know, the City of Grand Rapids has cut 125 jobs. Aaron and I did not have our positions cut, but the City has a union. What that basically means is that those with higher seniority get to bump people with lower seniority out of their jobs and take their jobs. So even though Aaron and I are still employed at the moment, bumping will begin shortly. I believe that people should be able to keep their jobs based on work ethic and drive not based on the number of years that people have been employed. There are so many people whining and complaining right now in the union about what they “deserve” and those are the same people that sit around watching all the newbies doing all the work. No one “deserves” anything unless they work hard to get it. I am so tired of the entitlement mentality in America today. How did this happen to a country that was founded on the principles of free enterprise?
I know that Aaron and I will be ok in the long run for a few of reasons. First, no matter what, God is on our side and is watching out for us. Second, we are hard workers and any employer would be blessed to have us. Third, we have the ability to go out there and take advantage of the free enterprise system America was founded on and we will.
Please pray for us that through everything we will make the right decisions for us and our future and that Aaron and I will continue to grow closer through this trying time and grow closer to God. The most important thing is that Aaron and I have each other and we are going to be spending the rest of our lives together :)
Sorry for venting and thank you for any and all prayers!!

The Proposal
So this is how it happened :)
We were gearing up for the Walk to Defeat ALS which was happening on October 10. Aaron’s sister, Katie, had this idea that after the walk she, their mom, Aaron and I should go up north for a color tour and we thought that was a great idea…
Apparently, when Aaron heard this great idea he was thinking that would be a great time to propose to me. And he had the perfect spot in mind. As a child he and his family spent a lot of time near Traverse City and Old Mission Point was a very special place to him. It is way up on the tip of a peninsula north of Traverse (on the 45th parallel to be exact) and there is a lighthouse there. Last year on the way back to Grand Rapids from camping in the UP Aaron brought me there for the first time. So, he thought it was a great place to ask me to be his wife :)
He was very sneaky about getting the ring and everything without me knowing, you can ask him about it sometime. So October 10, 2009 rolls around and the walk was great, a little chilly but it was a beautiful walk. The four of us met at Aaron’s mom’s house to start our journey. On the way up north it was a little drizzly but no big deal right? I mean, we are just looking at all the pretty colors on the trees and we can do that from inside the van. So that’s why it was weird to me that the whole fam (who was all in on the surprise) was bummed about the weather. Especially when it started snowing! Yes, I said snowing!
But by the time we got near Traverse City the sun had come out and it turned into a great day. We were all relieved… some of us more than others however, namely Aaron. And he started acting really weird in the van. In my mind, I thought he was going to propose to me when we went out for my birthday in a couple weekends so I wasn’t shocked that he was being silly. Then he does something (I can’t remember what) and I told him I was mad at him (jokingly) and he says, “I don’t think you will be mad at me for long…” and gets the silliest grin on his face. So I stared at him. Then he said it’s because I am never mad at him for long. Right….
The weirdness continues until we get to Old Mission Point. And I am extremely sore (because of my ankle surgery) from the walk and don’t feel like walking anymore than I have to. And it was freeeeezing at the lighthouse! So, when we got down to the stairs to get to the beach I told Aaron I had seen it before and would wait there. He asked me very nicely to come down just for a minute and boy am I glad I did!!
His mom and sister started walking to the shore and Aaron and I walked toward the lighthouse. Then he turned me around so that we were standing face to face. I told him how cold I was so he held me for a second to warm me up. Then he started talking…
He said “Babe, you know that 2 weeks after I met you I wanted to tell you that I love you” this is when I was thinking to myself “ummm….what is going on here?” Then he said, “this is a very special place to me and I hope that now it will be special to you too.” He started reaching in his pocket and I started freaking out. As he started to get down on one knee I screamed “you are not! You are not!!” then I started crying, a lot.
He pulled out the most beautiful ring and he asked me to marry him!!! I couldn’t speak right away so I started shaking my head yes but he didn’t get it. So I somehow squeaked out a yes and he got up and held me in his arms. Then he yelled to his mom and his sister that I said yes! Apparently, his sister Katie was taking pictures the whole time and I am so glad she did! We all shared in hugs and tears and I stared at my fiancĂ© and my beautiful ring the rest of the day… ok, maybe I still do :)
